Inspiration

It would be reasonable to assume that the JD Wetherspoon pub chain was named after its founder. However, the founder, Tim Martin, made the name up.

The JD is taken from Boss Hog (the sheriff in the Dukes of Hazzard).

The surname, Wetherspoon, is revenge against a Geography teacher he had at school. The teacher was a teetotaller that didn’t approve of alcohol and had told him he, “would amount to nothing!”
