4 Day Week
This weeks wisdom wednesday comes from a news article on the BBC website about the success of the four-day week trial.
Flexible and remote management is something Tom and I started to adopt 15 years ago as Tom had the opportunity to live in New Zealand for 6 months and I later moved to Ibiza for a year.
In starting families we recognised that we wanted to spend more quality time with our partners and children, so worked 3 days a week. Fortunately we had great people who were all more than capable of taking over some of our work, excited about the opportunity to grow and develop.
As time went on, some of our managers requested to work 3 or 4 days a week and so we had people performing the same job in a different region either working 3, 4 or 5 days.
This then created the opportunity for team leaders to grow and develop.
Across that whole period we never lost a manager we didn’t want to lose. I think one of the many reasons for this is we created a culture of flexible working; we tuned into the wider life needs of individuals; at the same time as creating solutions for what the business needed.
